The San Francisco Bay Area Council of the American Veteran's Committee (AVC) was established on February 19, 1946 to provide support for Bay Area chapters of the AVC. Founded in 1943, the AVC was an association of veterans and servicemen and women of the World War II. With a motto if "Citizens First, Veterans Second," the organization aimed to provide assistance to veterans in the areas of education, employment, housing, free speech, civil rights, and more.
